Unable To Hand Over Notice To Udayanga Weeratunga, Foreign Ministry Informs Court

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs yesterday informed Colombo Fort Magistrate that the ministry is unable to handover the notice issued to former Sri Lankan Ambassador Udayanga Weeratunga to appear at court over the alleged financial fraud during the purchase of MiG aircrafts to the Sri Lanka Air Force.

The Ministry said that Weeratunga was not residing at his address in Ukraine.

The court had earlier directed that Weeratunga must be handed over the notice through the Foreign Ministry if he was residing abroad.

Meanwhile the court also directed the police to inquire n to the misplacement of the original documents pertaining to the deal.

The court also directed police to utilize the records of a case related to the MiG deal which was heard for several years at the Mount Lavinia Magistrate's Court.
