Speaker of Switzerland In Sri Lanka

Visiting Speaker of the National Council of the Federal Assembly of Switzerland, Ms. Christa Markwalder visited the Sri Lanka Parliament today morning.

She paid a courtesy call on the Speaker Karu Jayasuriya at the Speaker’s Office in the Parliament. Speaker Jayasuriya focused Ms. Markwalder’s attention towards the Parliamentary Reforms, Tourism between both countries, and the assistance extended to Sri Lanka by Switzerland.  In response, Mr. Markwalder also pointed out the importance of the Parliamentary Reforms.

Both leaders exchanged mementoes after the discussions.

Ms. Markwalder next paid a courtesy call on the Opposition Leader of Parliament R. Sampanthan at his office in the Parliament. They discussed the current situation of both countries and exchanged views. Mementoes were also exchanged to mark the event.

Before joining the luncheon meeting with the Members of the Sri Lanka – Switzerland Parliamentary Friendship Association, she observed the Parliamentary sittings and the Parliamentary premises. Deputy Speaker of the Parliament, Thilanga Sumathipala MP joined the visiting diplomat at the luncheon, which was hosted by him.

Ms. Christa Markwalder will leave for Kandy for a two day visit tomorrow.
