Jaffna University Students Suspend Protest After Discussions With Swaminathan

After a discussion with the Minister of Prison Reforms, Rehabilitation, Resettlement and Hindu Religious Affairs, D.M Swaminathan, the students of the Jaffna University have suspended their protests.

The Minister went to Jaffna this morning to hold a discussion with the student unions and the Vice Chancellor of the University of Jaffna regarding the deaths of the two Jaffna University students.

The students have decided to suspend their protests after the auurance given by the minister. Swaminathan also noted that the students have been given the opportunity to meet President Maithripala Sirisena tomorrow.

The students engaged in several protests throughout last week and they staged another protest this morning as well, demanding action against the recent shooting incident which killed two students in Jaffna.
