Work On 'World's Largest Christmas Tree' Stopped

December 07, 2016

The government has decided to stop the work of the 'world's largest Christmas tree' at Galle Face Green.

This was officially announced during a press conference at Sri Lanka Ports Authority a short while ago.

Colombo Archbishop Malcolm Cardinal Ranjith yesterday requested the government to put an end to such extravaganza and use the funds for something more meaningful.

The tree was to be 325 feet tall. It was being constructed by the Arjuna Ranatunga Foundation. Ranatunga is the Minister of Ports and Shipping and his brother Dhammika is the SLPA Chairman.
