JHU Stalwart Omalpe Sobitha Thera Wants Big Matches Banned Immediately

February 20, 2017

JHU stalwart Omalpe Sobitha Thera has asked authorities to intervene to ban all ‘big matches’ immediately, in light of the unruly behaviour displayed by students.

Omalpe Sobitha Thera said it was unlikely the students of Ananda and Nalanda Colleges would be able to cooperate to conduct the upcoming ‘big-match’, after the events of last week.

The Thera said that in the absence of school authorities intervening to immediately ban ‘big-matches’, authorities – such as the Ministry of Defence, should intervene to have the big matches conducted by all the top schools banned immediately.

On Wednesday last week, eight students were admitted to hospital and six vehicles damaged in a clash between students of Ananda and Nalanda Colleges in Colombo.

Fifteen students were arrested in the aftermath of the incident.
