The Ministry of Education is considering revising the guidelines governing student prefect bodies in schools.
The matter was taken up during discussions on the influence of student prefect boards on school administration, with particular attention given to concerns raised by teachers’ unions.
Representatives of teachers’ unions and officials of the Education Ministry deliberated on issues arising from the intervention of student prefect bodies in school administration and challenges encountered in maintaining discipline.
A teachers’ union representative who participated in the discussion told Asian Mirror that talks focused on minimising undue influence exerted by prefect boards on school administration, while ensuring that their support is harnessed for the overall benefit of the school.
Further discussions were also held on the importance of adhering to appropriate age limits when appointing students to prefect bodies, the representative added.
