The newly opened Pettah Central Bus Terminal has received positive public response for its upgraded facilities and modern infrastructure, with many commuters welcoming the development as a step forward in improving urban transport services.

However, alongside the praise, concerns have emerged over an error in the Tamil signage displayed at the commemorative plaque.

The issue relates to the Tamil rendering of “Pettah” (Pitakotuwa), which appears on the name board as “புநக்கோட்டை” (Punakkottai). Language observers and members of the public have pointed out that the correct Tamil spelling should be “புறக்கோட்டை” (Purakkottai).

The discrepancy has sparked discussion on social media, with some noting that while infrastructure upgrades reflect progress, attention to linguistic accuracy remains a critical aspect of public service delivery in a multilingual country where Tamil is recognised as an official language.
