Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) National Organiser and MP Namal Rajapaksa alleged that the President has begun delivering judicial verdicts from a political platform, warning that any attempt to use such rhetoric to suppress public concerns would not succeed.

He made these remarks while addressing the media in Kalutara on 3 May.

Commenting on the recent May Day rally, Rajapaksa claimed that references to the Rajapaksa family and the SLPP featured prominently in speeches, reflecting what he described as the Government’s political focus.

He criticised President Anura Kumara Dissanayake for, he said, failing to address issues such as workers’ rights, strengthening State institutions, and economic recovery, and instead focusing on remarks about imprisoning political opponents.

“It is shameful. This shows the level to which the office of the Executive President has fallen,” he said, questioning whether such statements were appropriate for a May Day platform.

Rajapaksa further alleged that the President appeared to believe that decisions announced from a Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) platform could override public concerns. “If the President thinks he can deliver verdicts from a political stage and bury the people’s issues, that is an illusion,” he said.
