Army troops have restored access to Galaha Hospital and the surrounding Galaha town area by installing an emergency bridge after heavy rains severed the route on Sunday (18).

The Sri Lanka Army said troops attached to the 6th Field Engineer Regiment successfully launched a Compact 100 Bridge at Galaha–Delthotawatta following the damage caused by the adverse weather conditions.

According to the Army, the Provincial Road Development Authority (PRDA) had proposed relocating the Medawala Bridge to the Galaha area as an emergency measure to reconnect the hospital and nearby town.

Following the completion of the bridge installation, the route was reopened for civilian use.
