The Ministry of Health says 250 suspected meningitis cases have been identified from several parts of the country.

Consultant Community Physician at the Epidemiology Unit, Dr. Harendra Dasanayake, said the cases had been reported from Deniyaya, Rikillagaskada, Diyatalawa, Welimada, and Kandy.

However, fewer than 50 patients are currently receiving hospital treatment, he noted.

Dr. Dasanayake further said the outbreak has been linked to a virus belonging to the enterovirus group, which has been identified as the cause behind the spread of the disease.

He also urged the public to follow proper health practices to reduce the risk of infection.250 suspected meningitis cases reported from several areas
