Former Army Commander Shavendra Silva has dismissed as false reports circulating on social media claiming that he intends to enter active politics by contesting for the post of Chief Minister of the North Central Province.

The rumours emerged following the circulation of a poster featuring Silva with the caption, “National Hero to Contest for North Central Chief Minister.” The poster sparked widespread speculation that the former Army Commander was preparing to launch a political career.

Responding to the claims, Silva stressed that he has no intention of joining any political party or engaging in party politics. He clarified his position in a special statement issued while attending an international security conference in China.

Although ruling out active politics, Silva stated that he remains willing to serve the country in any capacity if called upon to undertake responsibilities in the national interest.

He further said that his primary objective is to continue contributing to national security and the country’s future development without any political ambitions or pursuit of power.
