A Coroner attached to the Ragama (North Colombo) Teaching Hospital has been arrested by officers of the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) over an alleged bribery offence.
The suspect, identified as Sudarshana Sri Lal Indrajith Dissanayake, was taken into custody following an investigation launched on a complaint lodged by a resident of Mount Lavinia.
According to CIABOC, the coroner had allegedly demanded a bribe of Rs. 100,000 in exchange for releasing a judicial medical report related to a person who had died at the Ragama Teaching Hospital on December 28, 2025.
Investigators found that the suspect had accepted the Rs. 100,000 payment on June 8, 2026, before handing over the inquest report to the complainant.
The arrest was made after the suspect reported to the Commission, where he was taken into custody on allegations of soliciting and accepting a bribe while performing public duties.
CIABOC said legal action has been initiated against the suspect under bribery laws.
He is due to be produced before the Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court.
