Rajangane Saddharathana Thera was allegedly assaulted by two unidentified individuals, Police said.
The incident had reportedly taken place on Saturday night (6).
According to Police, the two suspects arrived in a van, assaulted the Thera while wearing face coverings, and fled the scene.
The victim sustained injuries in the attack and was admitted to hospital for treatment.
Police said the motive for the assault and the identities of those involved had not yet been established. Further investigations are underway.
