National People’s Power (NPP) MP and actor Jagath Manuwarna said the facilities provided to former State Intelligence Service Director Suresh Sallay while in custody were so extensive that they “made him want to be imprisoned.”
He made the remarks yesterday (2) while speaking to the media during an inspection of road rehabilitation work on the Thalathuoya–Kirchobridge Road.
Commenting on the matter, Manuwarna said those accused of corruption and fraud were now unsettled, adding that this was in line with the public’s expectations in what he described as “an era of justice.”
Jagath Manuwarna further claimed that Sallay’s family should seek to protect him not from the current government, but from members of the former administration.
“He should be protected from the Rajapaksas. He should be protected from Udaya Gammanpila, Wimal Weerawansa and Sarath Weerasekara because the threats to him come from them,” he said.
Referring to Public Security Minister Ananda Wijepala, Manuwarna said the minister had explained the facilities made available to Sallay while in custody.
“When you hear about the facilities he has been given, it makes you want to be imprisoned. They have even provided him with replacement teeth. He has now decided to eat through his mouth instead of through his nose, which is very good. He should also provide the relevant passwords,” Manuwarna said.
