The Court of Appeal of Sri Lanka today (3) dismissed a revision application filed by Yoshitha Rajapaksa challenging a ruling of the Colombo High Court in the ongoing money laundering case widely known as the “Menik Malla” case.
Rajapaksa had sought the intervention of the Court of Appeal after the Colombo High Court dismissed a preliminary objection raised on his behalf during the trial. Through the revision application, he also sought a ruling that the conspiracy charge contained in the indictment filed by the Attorney General under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act could not be maintained.
After hearing oral submissions by counsel appearing for Yoshitha Rajapaksa and the Attorney General, a Court of Appeal bench comprising Justices Amal Ranaraja and Dr. Sumudu Premachandra delivered its judgment, dismissing the revision application.
