Opposition MPs Namal Rajapaksa, Rohitha Abeygunawardena, Anuradha Jayaratne, D. V. Chanaka and Chanaka Madugoda on Tuesday launched a new political platform titled “A Team – Next Wave”, aimed at bringing together opposition voices both inside and outside Parliament.

The MPs said the initiative would provide a platform for political parties, independent groups and individuals who are not adequately represented in Parliament due to the Government’s overwhelming majority.

They said the platform would collaborate with opposition MPs, political parties and non-parliamentary groups to raise public concerns on key national issues and strengthen opposition engagement.

According to the MPs, the initiative also seeks to unite representatives from different opposition parties and independent groups to build a broader political alliance.

They said Sri Lanka currently requires an experienced political team capable of addressing pressing public concerns, including economic hardships, the tax burden, and issues affecting farmers, fishermen, graduates, youth and students.

The MPs added that the long-term goal of the platform is to build a united opposition movement that could eventually emerge as Sri Lanka’s “next national team.”
