Lanka Private Bus Owners’ Association (LPBOA) Chairman Gamunu Wijeratne has dismissed the growing public enthusiasm surrounding the newly launched Metro Bus service, claiming that it is a political exercise aimed at misleading the public.
Commenting on the project, Wijeratne said people who had travelled on private buses for the past 50 years were now speaking about the Metro Bus “as if they had been reborn.”
“Everyone is talking about ‘Metro, Metro’, but it is still the Sri Lanka Transport Board (SLTB). We have faced similar situations before, so we will not collapse,” he said.
Wijeratne further alleged that the Metro Bus project was a political game and expressed concern over the use of public funds.
“Let’s wait another six months and see what becomes of these Metro buses,” he added.
