More than 600 people have died in the devastating flash floods that struck Nepal on Wednesday, while at least 2,426 people remain missing, according to the country’s disaster management authority.
Rescue operations continued for a fourth consecutive day, with search teams using a brief spell of favourable weather to locate survivors. However, persistent instability in the affected areas has raised fears of further landslides.
Families are awaiting information about their missing relatives, who include 517 foreign nationals.
Satellite images have revealed widespread destruction along the Nepal-Tibet border, where hydroelectric dams and large sections of villages have reportedly been wiped out.
Rescue teams continue to search isolated and severely damaged areas amid difficult terrain and the continuing threat of secondary disasters.
