Opposition MP Harsha de Silva has questioned the government’s reliance on economic adviser Duminda Hulangamuwa, pointing out that he had also served in an advisory capacity during former President Ranil Wickremesinghe’s administration.
Speaking in Parliament today (21), de Silva challenged the government’s economic direction while referring to claims that the current administration was receiving guidance from an economic expert.
Identifying Hulangamuwa as the government’s economic adviser, the MP questioned whether the administration was relying on the same individual who had been involved in economic policymaking under Wickremesinghe.
“Who is the President’s economic whiz now? Duminda Hulangamuwa,” de Silva remarked.
Addressing Minister Sunil Handunnetti directly, he asked whether Hulangamuwa was also the economic adviser associated with the previous administration, challenging the government to clarify the matter.
The Opposition MP further criticised the government’s handling of the economy, claiming that the country was experiencing serious economic difficulties.
Meanwhile, de Silva accused the government of failing to deliver on its promises regarding the Parate law, the proposed bad bank mechanism and insolvency legislation.
