The gap between the retail price of auto diesel and its cost-recovery formula price narrowed significantly following the November fuel price revision, while the corresponding gap for Petrol 92 widened, according to PublicFinance.lk, a platform run by independent trade policy think tank Verité Research.
As of 1 November 2026, auto diesel retailed at Rs. 397 per litre, compared with a cost-recovery formula price of Rs. 459. The gap stood at approximately Rs. 62 per litre, down from around Rs. 75 in October.
Petrol 92 retailed at Rs. 424 per litre. The platform reported that its gap against the formula price had widened.
Despite increases in both retail prices, the analysis showed that both fuels continued to be sold below their respective cost-recovery formula prices.
PublicFinance.lk said the formula prices were calculated using Singapore fuel prices under the fuel pricing formula agreed to by Sri Lanka. The analysis drew on data from institutions including the Central Bank of Sri Lanka, the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CEYPETCO) and the Ministry of Finance.
