20% Average Electricity Tariff Reduction Effective Tonight: See Full List

The Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka (PUCSL) has announced a 20% average reduction in electricity tariffs across all sectors, effective from midnight on 17 January.

PUCSL Communications Director Jayanath Herath stated that the decision applies to the first six months of the year and follows a thorough review of proposals submitted by the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB), counter-proposals by the PUCSL, and public opinions, in line with the Sri Lanka Electricity Act.

For domestic consumers, the reductions are as follows:

  • 29% for consumption below 30 units
  • 28% for 31–60 units
  • 19% for 61–90 units
  • 18% for 91–180 units
  • 19% for above 180 units

Tariff reductions for other sectors include:

  • 31% for hotels
  • 30% for industries
  • 21% for religious institutions
  • 11% for the public sector and streetlights
