Sri Lanka Customs has issued a clarification regarding the recent controversy over the release of 323 containers without inspection. The department confirmed that none of the containers were designated for Expolanka Holdings.

Furthermore, Customs assured that there was no possibility of weapons, gold, narcotics, or other contraband entering the country and that the release did not result in any revenue losses to the state.

The official statement outlined eight key points, including the standard procedures followed by Sri Lanka Customs for goods clearance and the reasons behind the delay in inspecting certain containers.

Meanwhile, Western Province Governor Hanif Yusoof also denied allegations that he was involved in the release of the containers without inspection. He clarified that he had no connection to the matter and expressed regret over the accusations.

Yusoof emphasized that he holds no political ambitions in his current role and is solely committed to serving the people of the Western Province. His response comes after social media claims and opposition party accusations suggesting that the released containers contained goods linked to a company associated with him.
