The parents of the police constable attached to the Mount Lavinia Police Station, who went missing with his service weapon and reportedly left for Dubai while on duty, have been taken into custody.

Police also arrested another constable for aiding and abetting him. The court has granted permission to detain and question them for 48 hours, the Police Media Division stated.

On Saturday (08), the constable was reported missing along with his T-56 firearm. Investigations later revealed that he had departed for Dubai from the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) after failing to report for duty at a checkpoint on Friday night (07). Attempts to contact him were unsuccessful.

The Police have initiated action through Interpol to bring him back to Sri Lanka. Meanwhile, the firearm and 30 rounds of ammunition in his possession have not yet been recovered, and investigations are ongoing.
