Dispute Between IGP and NPC: Commission Issues Six-Page Clarification on Police Appointments and Transfers

The National Police Commission (NPC) has issued a special statement addressing remarks made by Acting Inspector General of Police, Senior Deputy Inspector General Priyantha Weerasooriya, regarding the commission.

The statement emphasises that, according to the Constitution, the NPC holds the authority over appointments, promotions, and transfers of all police officers. These powers must be exercised by the NPC in consultation with the Inspector General of Police.
