The government must obtain Parliament’s approval before implementing the debt sustainability agreement with international sovereign bond (ISB) holders, Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) MP Kabir Hashim said during today’s debate on the Vote on Account.

Hashim stressed the importance of transparency, urging the government to disclose details of the agreement. “We would like to know whether you are continuing with the agreement reached by the previous government or whether you have gone into a new agreement,” he said.

He also highlighted that over Rs. 3 billion has been allocated for debt sustainability, with an additional Rs. 3 billion earmarked for legal consultancy fees linked to the debt restructuring programme.
