A police investigation team has been appointed to assist the Committee of Inquiry investigating allegations of gross abuse of power by Inspector General of Police (IGP) T. M. W. Deshabandu Tennakoon.

The names of the appointed officers have been submitted to the Committee, following a formal request made to the Acting IGP seeking investigative support. The decision comes as part of ongoing proceedings to examine the conduct of the suspended police chief.

The Committee, during its third meeting held in Parliament on 28 April 2025, resolved to move forward with further investigations with the assistance of the newly appointed police team. The inquiry is focused on allegations of serious misconduct during Tennakoon’s tenure.

The Committee has scheduled its next meeting for 30 April 2025 as it continues to gather evidence and prepare its report.
