People’s Bank has launched its 125th Cheque Deposit Kiosk (CDK) at the Self Banking Unit of its Mid City Branch, becoming the commercial bank with the highest number of cheque deposit kiosks deployed across Sri Lanka.
The milestone was marked on June 22 under the patronage of People’s Bank Chief Executive Officer and General Manager Clive Fonseka, coinciding with the bank’s 65th anniversary celebrations.
The bank introduced its first Cheque Deposit Kiosk on July 1, 2021, to commemorate its 60th anniversary. The latest addition further strengthens its digital banking network and commitment to customer-focused technological innovation.
The kiosks allow customers to deposit cheques without filling out deposit slips by entering only basic information such as their account number, NIC number and telephone number. The system captures images of the deposited cheques, enables customers to verify the details on-screen and issues an acknowledgement receipt upon completion of the transaction.
People’s Bank has also introduced an e-receipt facility, under which customers receive a text message containing a secure link to access full details of their cheque deposits, including cheque images.
Available around the clock at Self Banking Units islandwide, the kiosks enable customers to deposit multiple cheques in a single transaction, offering greater convenience and reducing the need to retain cheques overnight.
The bank also announced that it has become the first commercial bank in Sri Lanka to introduce Digital Endorsement for cheques deposited through its kiosks. Under the system, a digital endorsement is applied to the reverse image of the cheque during backend processing, supporting a fully digital cheque-clearing workflow.
Senior bank officials, including Deputy General Manager (Recoveries) Naleen Pathiranage, Deputy General Manager (Channel Management) Aruni Liyanagunawardana and other representatives, staff and customers attended the launch event.
