The Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) has announced the successful connection of the newly-built grid substation at Wagawatta to the national grid.

Funded by the Board of Investments (BOI) Sri Lanka at a cost of Rs 2,300 million, the substation is designed to supply electricity to the Wagawatta and Millaniya industrial zones. Built on a five-acre land gifted by the BOI, the facility boasts a capacity of 90 MVA, ensuring improved reliability for existing industries and meeting the demands of upcoming ventures, according to the CEB.

The design, construction, and commissioning of the substation were entirely undertaken by the Transmission Construction Projects (TCP) Branch of the CEB, utilising its own engineers, superintendents, and field staff.

Notably, this marks the first grid substation project fully executed by the CEB’s in-house team, highlighting the organisation’s technical capabilities and expertise.
