A three-wheeler driver who allegedly rammed a motorcycle and fled the scene has been arrested today (21) by Mount Lavinia Police with the help of viral social media footage and CCTV recordings.

The accident had occurred on 14 April, and videos showing the three-wheeler colliding with the motorcycle before speeding away had circulated widely on social media in recent days.

Following statements recorded from the injured motorcyclists at the Mount Lavinia Police, officers launched a broad investigation.

Police said they reviewed the videos shared online as well as CCTV footage from cameras installed along the road, leading to the identification of both the suspect and the three-wheeler involved in the incident.

The suspect, a 19-year-old resident of Borupana, Ratmalana, was arrested today.

He is due to be produced before the Mount Lavinia Magistrate’s Court tomorrow (22 April).

Further investigations are being carried out by Mount Lavinia Police.
