A 21-year-old Moulavi from Eragama has been remanded in connection with the alleged sexual abuse of a 14-year-old minor, Police said.
According to Police, the suspect, identified as the main accused in the case, had fled the area following the incident. He later surrendered to the Ampara Magistrate’s Court through legal counsel on 20 May and was remanded until 3 June 2026.
Meanwhile, another 21-year-old resident of Eragama accused of aiding and abetting the main suspect was arrested earlier and produced before the Ampara Magistrate’s Court on 9 May.
The second suspect, who was initially remanded until 20 May, has also been further remanded until 3 June.
Further investigations are being carried out by the Eragama Police.
