SLPP National Organiser and MP Namal Rajapaksa claimed that several members of the current Government have maintained closer ties with Basil Rajapaksa than he has.

Speaking to the media in Colombo, Namal Rajapaksa alleged that certain Government figures who have associated closely with Basil Rajapaksa since 2005 regularly speak with him to inquire about the country’s situation.

“Many in this Government have had a closer association with Basil Rajapaksa than I have since 2005. They call him every evening asking about the country’s situation. Instead of asking me when he is returning, they should ask him themselves. He is my uncle, but he is their friend,” Namal Rajapaksa said.
