Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) National Organiser and MP Namal Rajapaksa said the Government should focus on addressing the mounting cost of living crisis instead of spending time in Parliament discussing arrests and ongoing investigations.
In a statement, Rajapaksa said people were looking to President Anura Kumara Dissanayake for solutions to the economic hardships faced by families across the country, rather than comments on ongoing investigations and legal proceedings.
He also said the President should not use Parliament as a platform to predict arrests, investigations or court rulings, stressing that if there were complaints requiring investigation, the legal process should be allowed to proceed independently.
“If there is any case or investigation, let it proceed according to the law. We are prepared to face any investigation and legal process because we have faith in the judicial system. We have nothing to hide and will not run away from anything,” he said.
Rajapaksa further claimed that rising prices and increasing household expenses had placed the majority of Sri Lankan families under severe financial pressure, while accusing the Government of failing to deliver on its promises of good governance.
He also alleged that serious questions had emerged regarding corruption and the conduct of certain ministers in the current administration, claiming that despite allegations that some ministers had irresponsibly amassed assets and wealth, authorities had failed to take action against Government members.
Rajapaksa stressed that instead of commenting on arrests and court cases, the President should focus on the cost of living crisis, the economic challenges faced by ordinary citizens and public concerns over alleged corruption within the Government.
“What people need are solutions to the rising cost of living and the economic pressures they face every day. That is the country’s most urgent crisis at this moment,” he said.
