The book Dependent Origination in Plain English, written by renowned Sri Lankan monk Agga Maha Pandita Henepola Gunaratana Thera, has been ranked among the 10 most popular Buddhist works globally in 2024, according to the annual survey conducted by Tricycle, a prominent American Buddhist website.
Henepola Gunaratana Ther, widely known as Bhante G, is a 97-year-old monk celebrated for his contributions to spreading Theravāda Buddhism worldwide. He is also the founder of the Bhavana Society in West Virginia, the world’s largest Theravāda meditation center.
This recognition follows his earlier success in 2022, when his book Mindfulness in Plain English was included among the 10 most influential Buddhist works globally. The book, which has been translated into over 20 languages, is even featured on school reading lists in Thailand.
