The banks of the Gal Oya have collapsed in Nenakadu, causing severe flooding. Approximately 1000 acres of paddy fields belonging to the Deegavapiya have been submerged.

Earlier, over 100 individuals from more than 25 families in Senanayakapura and Samapura, Ampara, were evacuated to safer locations due to the imminent risk of the Gal Oya river bunds breaching, the Ampara District Secretary told the media.

This marks the third breach of the bunds in the same area in 2024, with earlier incidents occurring in January and November.
