Former President Gotabaya Rajapaksa has been ordered to appear before the Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court on 29 August to give evidence via an online link to the Jaffna Magistrate’s Court in connection with the case over the alleged abduction and disappearance of Lalith Kumar Weeraraj and Kugan Muruganandan.
The order was issued when the case was taken up before Jaffna Chief Magistrate S. Lenin Kumar.
Weeraraj and Muruganandan were allegedly abducted in the Avarangal area of Jaffna on 10 December 2011 and have remained missing since.
Rajapaksa was serving as Sri Lanka’s Defence Ministry Secretary at the time of their disappearance.
