Democratic Party leader Field Marshal Sarath Fonseka refuted rumors that he is planning to contest the upcoming election from Kurunegala District.

Answering a question raised by a journalist following a meeting, Fonseka said that the rumor could have been started since former President Mahinda Rajapaksa was contesting from Kurunegala.

He said that he has no reason to follow Rajapaksa at every step and added that the people will give their verdict on the former president.

Fonseka also said that Rajapaksa was making an attempt at the Presidency through the backdoor. This attempt will be thwarted, Fonseka warned.
