President's Media Director Dharmasri Ekanayake said that President Maithripala Sirisena will not make a special statement today.

Speaking to Asian Mirror, Ekanayake said that there was no truth in the rumor circulating that he will be making a special statement.

It was speculated that the President will be making a statement, explaining his decision to grant nominations to former President Mahinda Rajapaksa. It was also widely speculated that he will announce his neutrality in the election.
