Objections filed against Dallas Alahapperuma and Manoj Sirisena in the UPFA nominations list in Matara District were rejected by the District Returning Officer.

 

Therefore the two candidates can stand in the election.

 

Our National Front objected Dallas Alahapperuma's nomination, alleging that he is a dual citizen of Sri Lanka and USA.

 

Meanwhile, JVP team leader Sunil Handunnetti filed objections against Provincial Councilor Manoj Sirisena on the grounds that he is a dual citizen of Sri Lanka and Australia.

 

According to the recently passed 19th Amendment, dual citizens are not allowed to vote and be elected to parliament.
