Former Health Minister Tissa Attanayake has been nominated in the United People's Freedom Alliance National List which was handed over to the Elections Commissioner today.
The former UNP General Secretary crossed over to support former President Mahinda Rajapaksa during the Presidential Election and was appointed Minister of Health on December 11, 2014. He claimed that UNP leader Ranil Wickremesinghe and then common candidate Maithripala Sirisena have signed a secret agreement. However, he was later arrested for allegedly forging this document.
Apart from Attanayake, several key figures have been named in the UPFA National List. They include Prof. G. L. Peiris, Dr. Sarath Amunugama, Prof. Rajiva Wijesinha, Prof. Rizhvi Sharif, J. Sri Ranga, Dilan Perera and Faizer Mustapha.
Attorney-at-Law Shiral Lakthilaka and former Media Ministry Secretary Charitha Herath are also in the list.
Meanwhile, Reginald Cooray, Jeewan Kumaratunga, Tiran Alles and Prabha Ganesan are also in the UPFA national list. Ganesan is the brother of Mano Ganesan, leader of Tamil Progressive Alliance and UNP candidate in Colombo District.
