The Democratic Party was 'surprised' by Provincial Councilor Susil Kindelpitiya's move to contest with the Tamil United Liberation Front, a spokesperson of the Democratic Party told Asian Mirror.
Democratic Party finalized its nominations for Colombo District a few days before the deadline. However, the party waited until the last moment to give nomination to Kindelpitiya, the spokesperson said.
The spokesperson also said that there was no clash between DP leader Field Marshal Sarath Fonseka and Kindelpitiya.
Susil Kidelpitiya signed nomination papers to contest for the August 17 general election from the Colombo District, representing the Tamil United Liberation Front.
Kindelpitiya, the leader of the People’s National Front for Good Governance, signed nomination papers after reaching an agreement with the Tamil United Liberation Front led by veteran politician V. Anandasangaree.
