Former President Mahinda Rajapaksa said that he is leading the camaign with President Sirisena as Chairman of UPFA to bring back a government led by the Sri Lanka Freedom Party, Reuters reported.
Speaking to Reuters following the submission of nominations, Rajapaksa said that "today, people wants a change. I'm leading the campaign with President Sirisena as the chairman of the party to form a Sri Lanka Freedom Party-led governrnment."
Rajapaksa contests from the Kurunegala District, in which the SLFP and Rajapaksa has a strong support base.
Rajapaksa's allies want him to be the next Prime Minister, but the SLFP remains divided on the issue.
