The United National Party and the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna are holding their inaugural election rallies this afternoon.

The UNP rally is scheduled to begin at 3pm at Kandy under the patronage of Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe.

Wickremesinghe is also expected to meet the Chief Prelates of the Asgiriya and Malwatta Chapters of the Siyam Maha Nikaya at Kandy today.

Meanwhile, the JVP will hold its inaugural rally at Maharagama this afternoon. Party leader Anura Kumara Dissanayake will preside the meeting.
