Western Provincial Council Chief Minister Prasanna Ranatunga and his wife appeared at the Colombo Fort Magistrate Courts this morning, and were released on bail a short while ago.
On July 9, the Colombo Fort Magistrate issued a notice on Prasanna Ranatunga and his wife Morin Ranatunga to appear in court on July 14 for not appearing before the FCID.
They were summoned by the FCID over a financial fraud related to a land deal.
However, the UPFA General Secretary Susil Premajayantha wrote to the Elections Commissioner saying that Prasanna Ranatunga is unable to appear at the FCID until July 13 since he is required to be present to finalize and handover UPFA nominations.
The Elections Commissioner wrote to the IGP requesting that Ranatunga be summoned after July 13.
