Premakumar Gunaratnam, Central Committee Member of the Frontline Socialist Party, leads the national list of the party, submitted to the Elections Commissioner.

 

Gunaratnam, who is currently an Australian citizen has been asked by the Immigration and Emigration Department to leave the country. However he remains in the island and is demanding the right to engage in politics.

 

Gunaratnam was the Trincomalee District leader of the JVP during the 1987-89 election. He broke away with a faction of JVP members in 2011 and later left for Australia.

 

He returned to the island on January 1 during the Presidential Election on a tourist visa. His visa expired at the end of January.
