A total of 94 passengers, scheduled to leave for Colombo, were stranded and forced to spend several hours at the Chennai Airport on Monday night, after the Srilankan Airlines in which they were to travel, developed a technical snag.
The passengers flew at around 5.00 am by another flight on Tuesday. The flight from Chennai to Colombo was scheduled to leave at around 9.30 p.m on Monday night, but the flight arrived Chennai from Colombo after two hours of delay at 10.00 pm, airport sources said.
The passengers were sent by another Srilankan Airlines that arrived from Colombo at around 3.30 am and left at 5.00 am. Similarly, 234 passengers who were supposed to fly in British Airways from Chennai to London at 5.30 am on Tuesday were made to stay at different hotels in the city, after a technical snag was spotted by the pilot.
The pilot conducted an usual check of the flight, before it was operated, when he spotted a snag in the engine. Soon, engineers were brought in to attend to the problem. The passengers had been put up at Chennai, promising that they would be flown to London once the repair was fixed.
