Sri Lankan left-handed opener Kusal Janith Perera smashed into record books a short while ago, equaling veteran opener Sanath Jayasuriya's record for the second fastest ODI 50, scoring his half century in 17 balls faced against Pakistan at Pallekele.
Chasing a target of 288 to win the second ODI, Perera and T.M. Dilshan gave the perfect opening for Sri Lanka. scoring 92 runs in 50 balls for the first wicket. The first 4 overs of the innings produced 54 runs.
Kusal Janith Perera scored 68 in 25 balls, with 13 boundaries and two sixes.
Sanath Jayasuriya scored what was then the fastest 50 in ODI, smashing a half century off 17 balls against the same opposition in 1996 at Padang Cricket Ground, Singapore. His record was broken by South Africa's AB de Villiers, who scored 50 off 16 balls against the West Indies in Johannesburg early this year.
