JVP leader Anura Kumara Dissanayake accused both President Maithripala Sirisena and Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe of not decisively defeating former President Mahinda Rajapaksa's politics following his electoral defeat on January 8.

 

Speaking at a press conference this morning, Dissanayake said that Rajapaksa could have been politically defeated following the January Presidential Election. However, the UNP-SLFP government did not take decisive steps agains Rajapaksa, for various reasons of their own, he argued.

 

This failure is the major reason for the crisis in which President Maithripala Sirisena finds himself in, Dissanayake said further.
