A Fundamental Rights petition was filed with the Supreme Court today by Senaka Perera, a nominee of the Nava Sama Samaja Party national list, against former President Mahinda Rajapaksa’s use of state vehicles and properties for his election campaign.
The petitioner argues that Rajapaksa has an advantage over all other candidates and that it is a violation of fundamental rights of the other candidates.
Meanwhile, the JVP filed a separate petition at the Human Rights Commission against Rajapaksa’s use of state vehicles. The JVP pointed out that the human rights of other candidates are violated by Rajapaksa’s use of military vehicles. Furthermore, Rajapaksa has a large security detail, the petition also said.
The petition has been filed by JVP Kurunegala District team leader Namal Karunaratne.
