Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe 'bowled' three political 'yorkers' at former President Mahinda Rajapaksa today, in the form of three questions he raised at a public rally. He added that if Rajapaksa cannot answer them, he is not worthy of being elected to the parliament.
Speaking at a rally in Galgamuwa in the Kurunegala District, Wickremesinghe asked Rajapaksa the reason as to why he is contesting the election with the objective of being the Prime Minister of the country. Wickremesinghe recalled that former presidents had always retired after two terms in power. When Chandrika Kumaratunga retired as President, Rajapaksa demanded her give up the party leadership too, Wickremesinghe recalled. He asked as to why Rajapaksa returned to the political fray, forgetting all these.
Secondly, Wickremesinghe asked if Rajapaksa was willing work with President Maithripala Sirisena if he were to become the Prime Minister. He will have to accept good governance principles, Wickremesinghe pointed out.
Thirdly, Wickremesinghe demanded an explanation as to why he left Hambantota and came to Kurunegala to contest in the election.
