Frontline Socialist Party Gampaha District candidate Chameera Koswatta asked the public to use their brains against those who were using state property in the election campaigns.
Speaking at a recent meeting in Bentota, Koswatta recalled that the former government of Mahinda Rajapaksa blatantly misused state properties for election work.
He pointed out that the new government, which vowed to end this practice, was merely repeating it.
Koswatta pointed out that there was no talk of an interim government, and the present government is using their official positions to their advantages in campaigning. Not only former President Mahinda Rajapaksa but the Prime Minister and the Ministers have an advantage over other candidates, he pointed out.
Even though the government has imposed a new regulation making it necessary to pay a fee for the official vehicles used in election work, Koswatta said that it does not make it any fairer to use these vehicles. Everyone cannot use a state vehicle for elections even if they paid the fee, he pointed out.
Koswatta said that both the Rajapaksa government and the present government merely attempted to deceive the people.
